These are two wonderful people I met doing social service in a nursing home: Amado Castaño and Huriela Mesa. The bright colors I used on these drawings represent their hope and life (filled with ups and downs - blues and yellows).
Amado - He used to be a pilot but is now in a nursing home since his family can't support him. He loves to play cards, has a great sense of humor, and is very patient. However, because of his years, he is a little bit lost, and is always waiting for the next flight since he “has to leave soon”.
Huriela - She loves to sew and is the one that remedies the shirts of her companions. Her biggest hope is to return to her home someday where her friends wait for her. In the nursing home, she confessed it is hard to make friends and she feels alone, but she seems to have a lot of fun when I come around and asks me to come back again soon every time I have to leave. She is the most tender and kind woman I have ever met and she has filled my life with so many lessons.
